What is PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana ?

• Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana is a new central government scheme announced by PM Modi.
• The scheme was announced on February 13, 2024, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter through his official Twitter handle.
• Informing about the scheme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said – “For the continuous development and well-being of the people, we are launching the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This project with an investment of over Rs 75,000 crore will provide up to 300 units of free electricity in 1 crore of homes.”
• The scheme aims to install solar panels on the roofs of one crore poor and middle-class families in the country.
• In this scheme, the government will also provide subsidies to families to install solar panels.

• Customers can install a solar system of any capacity (minimum 1 KW) and its contracted load limit will not apply.
• The applicant has the right to choose the agency, solar panel, and inverter. And can fix the price of the system itself by negotiating the price with the agency.
• Applicants can apply manually through the National Portal. Also, by completing the work and providing information on the portal, they can get a subsidy in their account.
• On the National Portal, the applicant can easily monitor/track the process from registration to receiving the subsidy themselves.
• The electricity consumer has to choose any one of the agencies approved by the government. The list of approved agencies is available on the national portal, on the website of each electricity distribution company, and at each electricity office.

• Any customer can do the registration themselves from the national portal.
• Registration will be done from https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in/ website.

PM Surya Ghar Yojana Subsidy

• Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, the government has allocated a subsidy of up to Rs. 78000 will be given to consumers.
• For 1 kilowatt Rs. 30000/- subsidy will be provided.
• For 2 kW Rs. 60000/- subsidy will be given.
• For 3 kW Rs. 78000/- subsidy will be provided.
